You can’t spell HEART without HA!
When people think of Hyaluronic Acid (HA), many think of its use to diminish wrinkles and creases to keep the skin plumper and younger looking, while others think of the cushioning it provides to our joints. This “biological spring” is a crucial shock absorbing molecule in the body.
Few know that HA is much like a Swiss Army Knife with a multitude of uses within the body.
One of the most overlooked is how HA supports a healthy heart and cardiovascular system. It’s one of the most important components of loose connective tissue that makes up the “mortar” between the “bricks” (cells) of the artery and vein walls. Water, salts, and other low-molecular-weight substances are contained within the extracellular matrix, but its main structural constituents are proteoglycans. The matrix is the connective tissue of the body minus the collagen fibers, which are considered a separate entity.
Below is a cross-section of a portion of a vessel wall with the “sky” being the vessel lumen (where the blood flows). As we move down the illustration we are passing through the layers of the wall so that when we get to the bottom, we are at the outside of the vessel. The smooth muscle controls the diameter of the vessel and thereby the blood pressure. This pressure is the destructive and tearing factor that stresses the connective tissue of the vessels. Here again, HA is there as a shock absorber, dampening the pounding that the vessels take with each heartbeat, 100,000 times a day.
When our HA starts breaking down with age, it doesn’t just give us weak eyes, wrinkled skin and painful joints, it also weakens the arteries and veins, leading to cracks in the arteries and valve problems in the veins. These arterial cracks cause the body to increase cholesterol production and distribution so that the cracks can be covered with a waxy smooth patch that is arterial plaque. Large pharmaceutical companies have gotten everyone concerned with lower cholesterol while the root cause of the problem is a lack of good resilient HA that leads to the endothelial cracks in the first place.
We now know that the fast moving blood can tear these cracks open, allowing blood to get into the walls of the arteries. This wound draws white cells called macrophages into the wall which become the foam cells that are found in plaque laden arteries. Notice in the illustration above that the endothelium moves inward to sandwich this plaque so that it is inside the wall itself, rather than hanging down into the lumen like stalactites in a cave. This mass of plaque eventually ruptures, spewing such a large amount of clotting factors into the bloodstream, causing either a heart attack or stroke. Still many more Americans are affected; those who continue to survive have lost much of their vitality, vim, and vigor over the course of their latter years.
To combat this problem, Hyalogic has introduced CardiacPower 4 with an advanced LDS (lozenge delivery system), supplying 10 mg of powerful bio-identical High Molecular Weight HA in each lozenge. This synergistic blend also contains several other nutrients to provide support for a healthy circulatory system and overall good health. Included in each lozenge is Coenzyme Q10, an important antioxidant and cardiac enzyme that statin drugs deplete in conjunction with their cholesterol lowering function. The grape skin longevity molecule Resveratrol is in each lozenge as well. Studies from Harvard and other top notch medical centers continually show its longevity benefits as they continue to study it. Cranberry Seed Extract provides both vitamin E forms, tocopherol and the new super vitamin E tocotrienols form along with a perfectly balanced ratio of Omega-3, 6 and 9 fats. The amino acid, L-carnitine is included to help the body better metabolize fats (triglycerides) in the blood. The heart benefits from this since it prefers fat as a fuel source (compared to the brain that prefers glucose). A small amount of vitamin C is also present to catalyze the formation of collagen and elastin which are also crucial to the function of the circulatory system.
So, should you wait until you have a heart or cardiovascular event to start dealing with this serious situation or should you get started now? President John F Kennedy said, “The time to repair the roof is when the sun is shining…” In this case, CardiacPower 4 can provide help after an event, but wouldn’t it be better to get started now while it’s sunny, or at least, not raining?
